After downloading several updates from the Windows Update site, I'm getting
problems (I have no idea if they are related to the Updates or not).

After running for five or ten minutes, my system freezes and I get this
error message:

"FIND FAST

Find Fast encountered an internal error and stopped. To restart Find Fast,
double click the Find Fast icon in Widows Control Panel."

Clicking the 'OK' box or the close window 'X' closes the window and
instantly brings it up again, endlessly. I have to hit the power switch to
shut-down. The first time this happened I was online, in IE 6 (when an error
message ending with '...Status Code 1073741818' appeared) and the next time
was with Word 2002, a few minutes later (When another box overlaid the Find
Fast error box:

"WINDOWS - SYSTEM ERROR

Unknown Hard Error")

Clicking 'OK' or close window resulted in the same loop...

I am stuck! I can only use my computer for a few minutes at a time, can
anyone help, please?

Cheers,

Chris

P.S. I'm using Win XP/SP1 on a Sony AMD laptop... and am only guessing that
Find Fast is an Office function!

Hmm... Well I also installed Acrobat 5.1 just before (which I forgot about)
and have now uninstalled. My computer is not showing this error now.

Ooer.

Still, you live and learn - I'm going to install Acrobat 6 now, that might
be exciting.

Cheers,

Chris.

(P.S. Origional post was on my wife's computer... if you were wondering.)

I lied! It's doing it again now.

I re-installed Acrobat Reader 6 and it's all started again. Any help would
be much appreciated

Cheers,

Chris

Acrobat *Reader* should not be causing any problems. I would look elsewhere
for the culprit.

I'm sure we've all been using Acrobat Reader for years and I've certainly
had no troubles with it.

To stop the problem (rather than solve it!), I deleted Find Fast from the
Start/Programs/Start Up folder. So far it's okay but it's not exactly a
cure. (I've not noticed any difference since deleting Find Fast so wonder
what on earth it really does!)

Cheers,

Chris

Find Fast is a notorious troublemaker.

Well it happened again yesterday, in spite of me deleting Find Fast from my
Start Up list. This time the 'Unknown Hard Error' developed into a full-on
black screen crash - and when I tried to re-boot, an error report read
'Unable to find Operating System'.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I tired a Partition Magic boot disk, and an old Win 98 Start Up disk but
neither helped...

I have changed the 15 GB hard drive for a 20 GB drive that came out of my
wife's Sony R600 last week and am now in the long, long, long process of
reinstalling every damn thing on my computer. I'm waiting for an external
USB case to put the old hard drive in so I can get at my precious data...

I didn't sleep well last night!

Is there a way to disable - or uninstall Find Fast - safely and effectively?

Cheers,

Chris
