I am servicing a Toshiba Satellite laptop running WinME
and Office 97.
While using Word97 it will suddenly insert spaces, several
clear lines and the letters 1QA or 1\qa in random
positions on the screen. I have been unable to detect any
viruses and all tests of the system appear normal.
Everything else seems to be running fine.
Any suggestions?

Some users have reported that this sort of thing can be a result of
inadvertently brushing the touchpad on laptops.

DEFINITELY NOT the case this time. The computer seems to
take on a mind of it's own and can go on adding characters
and lines for several pages.....
The characters 1QA and 1\qa are repeated frequently both
horizontally and vertically.
Tried reloading Office97 and it worked very well for about
and hour to and hour and a half then gradually
started 'misbehaving' again.....?????
