High Encryption Pack

Hello. Need help, please. When I'm trying to open a
document which was sent by my friend via email to me, I
get this msg:
"Word can not open this file. The encryption type used is
not available, contact the author of the file. More
encryption types are available using the High Encryption
Pack"
I have Office XP and IE 5.5 with Service Pack 2

Hi Emik,

See if this article and the ones linked to describe the situation you're seeing.

There are Office XP Encryption improvements and there can also be an Internet Explorer change.

In Internet Explorer check in Help=>About to see what the 'Cipher Strength' available is. You may have less than the 128 bit
capability. You can check on http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to see if an update is available.

Hi Bob. Thanks for trying to help me. I followed the link
you posted. There is a link to fix my problem which is not
working on Microsoft Site. I checked Cipher Strength. Its
128 Bit. Can you suggest me something else.

Hi Emik,

Hmmmm. Thanks for pointing out the broken link in that MSKB article. It should be using:
http://microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/128bit/default.asp

I'd suggest going with Method #2 in
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q286/8/92.asp
if you already have the high encryption installed in Internet Explorer.

and everything is working good now.
