I recently started getting this error message when I try to save. I have
plenty of memory, 3 gb. I've tried renaming the normal.dot, but no luck.
I've run the diagnostics, no luck. Same with chkdsk. I did get a pagefile
couldn't be written error to disk4 in a log. I'm wondering if the antivirus
programs are messing it up. I scan every day. This may have happened in
other MS programs, too, but not sure. Computer has been running slower
lately. I defrag regularly and have 100+gb free on the drive.

I think this all started when I changed the memory settings to no page file
temporarily to see if that would speed things up. I changed it back since it
was running out of memory after that. Now I have it at 3000mb or so.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The error message is used when Windows doesn't know what is wrong, so may be
a red herring. But please note that Windows MUST have a page file - even if
you have 64 GB memory and Windows was able to address it. Its use is not
exclusively to page out to disk when memory is full.

I presume when you say you rename normal.dot you meant to say normal.dotm?

I suggest that you insert your Windows DVD and launch the Windows Repair
function to see if it finds a problem before proceeding further. If that is
OK, launch Word in Safe Mode and test. From Start | Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press Enter. Are you able to Save now in Safe Mode?
