While working in Word a window opens stating:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Program: \ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice\Office10
\WINWORD.EXE
abnormal program termination

Where do I begin to find out what the problem is and how
to fix this, as this happen so many times I can't trust
Word. I've lost to many documents (and time) because of
this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
PS-I have very limited computer knowledge.

Runtime errors typically are due to malfunctioning macros in a global template or add-in. Go to Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any global templates or add-ins listed.

If so they are located in your Word\Startup folder or Office\Startup folder. If more than one, move them one at a time until you determine which one is causing the problem. The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under Tools/Options/File Locations.
