I just finished reinstalling Microsoft Word and I'm upset that it
still doesn't fix the problem of my inability to click it. Lets say I
launch Microsoft Word, I can do pretty much everything from creating a
new document and typing paragraphs. But lets say I use my mouse to
click in the middle of the paragraph to correct something, it doesn't
let me do that. When I go from my desktop background by clicking
OUTSIDE the microsoft Word screen; I try to click back again on
Microsoft word but it doesn't even make the Window active. I'd have to
click on the very top part of the Application, you know in the same
interface where the MINIMIZE / MAXIMIZE / CLOSE buttons are.

I'm using Windows Vista by the way.

Thanks!

Presuming that the document isn't Protected against editing (are you able to
select Menu items with the mouse?), you have an incompatible add-in.
Uninstall whatever it is.

I have exactly the same problem. I am also using Vista. I checked my add-ins
and I have nothing (it shows "requirements", but I think it comes with Word,
I didn't install it). I installed the Service Pack, plus all available
updates, and the problem persist.
I don't know exactly how this problem started. The only thing I remember
doing lately was the installation of AGe of Empires, an old version. I 'don't
find any way to uninstall it except erasing he files, but I doubt this is the
reason.
Yes, I can select menu items, the document is not protected (it happens with
any document).
I am using two monitors. I tried using only one but I keep having the problem.
Thanks,

I have the same problem that started today. The only thing that happened was
Word was closed before I saved the document and it was saved as a recovery
document. i resaved it as recommended but I cannot use my cursor any where
with the document or on the scroll bar. I've searched everywhere to find
what the cause is and it is only in word. When I try to close word it show
the box that states :word has stopped working" and it then restart word. Any
help???????

Solved!
Terry was right. I took out an add-in regarding automatic generation of
requirement models in PowerDesigner from Word. I didn't install this add-in,
it was either an automatic update or it was PowerDesigner.
To solve it:
- Press the "Office Buton"
- Select "Word options"
- Select the tab for Add-ins
- If you have that add-in, remove it.
Good luck!

It seems like I have an add in called SnagIT, which is a screen
capture. I'm uninstalling the software as of right now. I am not able
to go on office > word options > add ons tabs though.

Test to see if it is an addin by starting Word in Safe Mode. From Start Run
(Winkey+R) and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word now starts in its default install condition, bypassing
any customisations and add-ins, etc. Open a document and test.

That works perfectly fine! Thanks!

That's not a solution: that is only to prove that there is a third party
addin screwing up Word. You need to find and remove the addin. Starting in
Safe Mode is not a solution.

Terry

And if you must insist on bottom posting, please trim your posts.

So how do you un install an application that you suspect to be the culprit?
Like Guzman in an earlier post, my son tried to install (unsucsessfully)an
older version of Age of Empires, and now I'm in this pickle.

I don't know what you mean if I insist on bottom posting / trimming
posts.

In microsoft word 2007, I am not able to click on Word OPtions > Add
Ins, it won't let me. So how will I be able to uninstall the
application thats interfering with it?

The test shows something has changed since the original version. But I
cannot identify what. My security has made all addins disabled except one
which is a contribute template. How do I save the original version to
replace what I have on there now?

Uninstall through Add/Remove Programs (or Program & Features in Vista). But
check to see what add-ins you have installed.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'the original version'. Would you
elaborate please.

You referred to it as opening in safe mode. I thought that it was opening up
the program in the mode that it was originally placed on the computer.

I uninstalled all add ins and I'm still having the same problem.
I also read a recommendation in the community to delete recent templates
because they could be corrupt, and that didn't do the trick either.
I think it has something to do with my laptop power going out while I was
working on it.

Right now I'm sticking with the winword /a command.

If Safe Mode works, then you MUST have an addin that is messing up Word. See
this for locating all of Word's add-ins:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011514521033.aspx

Persevere because an addin is your problem.

Okay it worked, basically I went to safe mode and disabled any
"ACTIVE" COM, which was the PDF viewer from Acrobat. Thanks alot!
