After installing McAfee anti-virus, my remote desktop connection will
not allow me to share local drives. I know this is a well known problem
but does anyone know a way around it? Turning the program off does not
help

Or, can anyone tell me how to get McAfee off my machine. I know this
sounds silly but there is no Un-install programs in the directory nor
can I uninstall it from the control panel (even as administrator). I
am stuck with the program and no one seems to know how to delete it from
XP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that there is a patch from Microsoft for this issue. I
posted about this in this group, but I'm having trouble finding the post at
the moment--OK--found it:
This refers to the drive sharing issue, but I believe this is identical to
the printing issue you are referring to.

(reposting--thanks, Dick!)

For those not familiar with this process: Acquiring a hotfix like this one
requires that you place a paid support call (unless you have some corporate
support arrangement with Microsoft.) Once the call is placed, explain that
you have this specific problem, and don't talk about any other problems you
have! You may need to give details about versions involved, etc. The
charges for the call will be refunded (i.e. you won't get charged) and
you'll be given access to the patch.

One reason for this process, as mentioned in the KB article, is that this
revised code hasn't been as rigorously tested as it will be by the time it
comes out in a Service Pack--PSS wants to track who has it, so that any
issues with it can be better tracked.

There is now a hotfix for the issue where antivirus software appears to
interfere with local drives in a remote session. The issue is a bug in the
WindowsXP rdpdr.sys - got this info from a McAfee tech. See

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q315870

Got this fix a couple of days ago and have tested from both the client side
and the host side with McAfee installed. Seems to be fine at this point.
