Hello,
I remember that there should be a way to use one application only via RDP
(on XP)
So I do not want to take over an entire remote desktop, but only use one
application and be able to switch between applications as if the remote
desktop application is running locally.
Who can help me pointing me in the right direction ?

Not as part of terminal services. I believe citrix server has some features
that'll do that (at a cost, however).
