On the host machine--(the one whose files you wish to access) go to control
panel, network connections.
Choose Create a New Connection from the left column.
Choose Advanced, then Incoming.
Check off the modem as an incoming device, and proceed through the wizard.
It will be easier to connect if you choose to give a specific fixed set of
IP addresses to be used for connections, rather than let this be configured
by DHCP.
Once you've set this up, try dialling the phone number to see if the machine
answers. This'll give you a gross check about whether the modem is going to
handle incoming connections correctly.
On the laptop, control panel, network connections.
create a new connection to the office, dialup.
Test using a different phoneline, and try the dialup--see what happens, and
let us know.
Once connected, check the connectoid icon by the clock on the
laptop--right-click it, choose status, then Details tab. Make a note of the
Server IP address.
Start Remote Desktop on the laptop, and put in the Server IP address for the
machine to connect to.
