I've been having a really difficult time attempting to
get my XP machine to remotely connect to my 98 machine.
It says that it's not seeing it, but I know it does
because I've got all of the drives mapped.
I went to the 98 machine to ensure that remote
administration was allowed & it is, but it wants me to
add a user list. I give it my main machine as a user
list provider but then it tells me that it can't find the
address book provider. Please help me, I'm not a tech
idiot, but I'm starting to feel like one. I know I'm
missing something simple.
Please e-mail me.

Well, you can't use XP Pro Remote Desktop to access and control a Windows 98 machine...

Alternatives include NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing or VNC. NetMeeting is built-in to XP. Get the newest version for
Windows 98 from...

http://www.microsoft.com/netmeeting

Look at this KB article for help using NetMeeting RDS...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;233175

If your behind a home firewall/router/NAT then call using the public IP of that device. You would need TCP Port 1503
forwarded/open to the private LAN IP of the target PC.

Get the VNC server and client from...

http://www.realvnc.com

Note the VNC data link is *NOT* encrypted like the NetMeeting RDS link is. Some folks run VNC through SSH or VPN
tunnels.
