Running Windows XP Pro on an ASUS A7N8X-E motherboard, I
am logging this error every 10 seconds. There was another
person in the ASUS Forum that has this same thing
happening, so at least I know that it might be nForce +
nVidia 3.13 driver related somehow.

I've noticed that my A7N8X-E is logging WMI errors in the
file c:\windows\system32\wbem\logs\wmiprov.log. The error
message is logged every ten seconds and states this
exactly:

(Thu Feb 19 22:52:00 2004.105546) : WDM call returned
error: 4200
(Thu Feb 19 22:52:00 2004.105546) : WDM specific return
code: 4200(Thu Feb 19 22:52:00 2004.105546)

To troubleshoot where it may be coming from, I tried a few
things:

1). Started in Safe Mode. It was NOT logging the error.
2). Started in regular mode with all startup applications
disable, it WAS logging the error.
3). Disabled all extra devices in Device Manager, still
logging the error.
4). Uninstalled the 3.13 nVidia drivers, the error logging
stopped.
5). Reinstalled the 3.13 nVidia drivers, the errors
started logging again. In fact, I checked the wmiprov.log
file right at the point in the driver installation where
it pauses to tell you about the dangers of using the
uncertified nVidia IDE drivers and it was already logging
the errors again.

Basically, it only logs the error messages when the nVidia
3.13 drivers are installed. Is there any way I can
further investigate this?

Does anyone else have this occuring on their nForce
motherboard? I would really appreciate it if you could
check. If not, does anyone know what might be causing this
error to logged.

I have narrowed it down to the networking components. At
first I thought it was the drivers, so I disabled the
onboard network in the BIOS and installed my trusty old
3Com 3C905, but that did not make a difference.

The WMI event is being logged when the TCP/IP protocol is
enabled on a network adapter. This is 100%
repeatable. Now, why in the world would TCP/IP cause
this error?

The error was being caused by the file c:\program
files\common files\symantec\sndsrvc.exe, which is part of
the Norton Personal Firewall 2004 package. I uninstalled
the firewall and I am no longer logging the error.

I'm getting the same error message on my AMD64 nforce MB.
I'm getting a reboot after that message.
I have tried just about everyting from using XP pro, XP home and XP
64bit. Tried 2 different ATI and Gforce video board, and both got the
same result. WEIRD!
