Will I still be able to repair or reinstall using original CD or do I need
to copy SP1 to a CD for this purpose. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
Create a WinXP CD where SP1 is slipstreamed into it to avoid reinstalling SP1
after a repair or a reinstall.

On the presumption yours is a retail XP with the CD, or an OEM with full XP CD:
making a slipstream CD with Service Pack 1 is a good idea.
Then you can use that CD to make a repair install if needed.
Instructions on how to successfully slipstream SP1 and create a
bootable CD :
<http://www.justinwojas.com/bootcd.htm>
& <http://www.infinisource.com/WindowsXP/wincp-sp1-bootcd.html>
If you cannot make that CD, in a last resort, you can conceivably use the SP1 setup diskettes to get to
Recovery Console or make a repair install.
These are for Service Pack 1:

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install

Would this also be appropriate when upgrading a system, that now has XP Home
with SP1, to XP Pro (since our XP Pro CD is pre-SP1)?
Hi
Most likely, yes, but I have not tested it.
