I am currently having major problems in setting up a new stable
homebuild system and therefore do not want to register my XP until I
have resolved the issues.(otherwise would have had needed to register
XP more than a dozen times!) The trouble is that my OS is now stuck on
SP2 and therefore I am missing many post SP2 critical hotfixes.
Microsoft does not allow the download of any hotfixes ntil I have
registered.

I would like to know how much of a risk my system is exposed to if I
stay on SP2 level for a couple of weeks or if there are any other ways
to get these critical download.

Cheers

As long as you have a good third party firewall and anti-virus software
installed you'll be fine.
Here is a list of post sp2 hotfixes (I don't know if it's complete or not).
http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html

Next go here
http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
and type in the kb# of the hotfix you want, believe me you do not need them
all, this will take you to a download page, bypassing windows update.
