To see if this is possibly the case, try to print the test page directly
from the Printer as per:

If nothing was printed, you can try a replacement printhead.
If it printed fine, then it's some kind of PC to Printer error and there
could be a number of reasons for this....... so here are some possible
solutions.
Download the correct drivers for your printer from the Canon website. Do
not do anything with them at this point.... just remember where you put
them!
Turn off the printer. Go to the Control Panel and uninstall the
printer..... Reboot the PC... do NOT turn the printer on at this point.
Go into the Control Panel, and double click the Printers & Faxes icon. If
the BJC-2100 icon is still there, right click and select Delete.
Reboot the PC.... do NOT turn on the printer.
Go back into the Control Panel.... again, double click the Printers & Faxes
icon. Now from the toolbar, select File, then Server Properties. Look in
the Drivers tab. If there are any references to the 2100, highlight them
and click Remove.
Reboot the PC.... do not turn on the printer!
Find the driver package you downloaded from Canon. Double click it.... let
it expand... it should automatically launch the Welcome screen and start the
install. Turn on the Printer when it asks you to do so. It should now find
it and install the drivers.
Try to print a test page. If it works, stop here.... congratulations!
If it doesn't print.......... Go back to the top of the page and start
again. Do everything except double clicking the Canon file. Instead, turn
on the printer. When Windows asks you for the location of the drivers,
point it to your c:\Temp folder.... in that folder should be a Canon
BJC-2100 folder... point it at that and it should find and install the
correct drivers.
Try to print a test page. If it works, stop here.... congratulations!
If it doesn't...... try changing the cable, be it parallel or USB. Start
from the top again.
Try to print a test page. If it works, stop here.... congratulations!
If it doesn't, try swapping from a parallel cable to a USB... or vice versa!
If, after all that, it still won't work, then it's most probably a hardware
problem with the actual printer. At this point, you should consider whether
to take the printer to a Canon Service Center, or whether it's more
economically viable to purchase a new printer. Generally, I'm afraid, these
days, the latter is more economical in this disposable world!
