I'm trying to install my Lexmark x85 printer/scanner/fax and I keep getting
asked during the installation (after pluging in the usb cable) for the file
'usbscan.sys' from the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD. My computer came with
Windows XP and the automatic updates gave me the SP2. I've tried to
uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the printer, reboot the system, and
re-install the SP2 from the Windows Automatic updates, but it won't let me.
Is there a way to just get this one file online? Or do I have to some how get
the CD and try to extract the file from there? Any help is appreciated!

This issue may occur if the Usbscan.sys file is missing or corrupted. To
resolve this issue perform the following steps:

1. Locate the driver.cab file and open it. Its often found in
c:\windows\driver cache\i386

2. Now in there what you want to do is drag and drop the following files in
the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder.

Usbccgp.sys

Usbhub.sys

Usbintel.sys

Usbohci.sys

Usbport.sys

Usbprint.sys

Usbscan.sys

Usbser.sys

Usbstor.sys

Usbui.dll

These files are the critical files that we will need for the All-in-Ones.
Once when this procedure has been completed then what we need to do is to go
to the c:\windows\inf\ folder and right click on the usb.inf file
and select install. By doing this, it activates all those files that we sent
to the drivers folder.

If this doesn't work then you are probably looking at running a system
restore or recovery to fix your OS.

I downloaded the file a little bit ago, but did not know where to add it too
