It is my understanding that IE7 has a serious memory leak. If you are using
IE7 that could explain the problem. Try installing Firefox and see if that
stops happening.

I know I had a similar problem on a new dual core machine. As soon as I
stopped using IE7, the machine starting zooming at the speed it ran when I
purchased it and my browser pages didn't take 20 minutes to open!

Ironically, i was just downloading IE7 because i thought that maybe it was my
old version of IE that was causing the problem. So you think that I should
get firefox instead?
Any recommendations for the system being slow?

Yes definitely get Firefox (I used to be a IE person until this problem).
The only thing you really need IE for is MS updates and that you can do
through auto updates or use the IE Tab plugin in firefox.
