Have installed XP SP1 which is successful until I reboot
my machine. When I get to the logon screen and try to
log on I get an error message saying that

An error has caused XP to be unable to validate the
licence for this machine Error code 0x8007007f.

I have to boot into safe mode and go back to a recovery
point before SP1 installation. Any suggestions as to
what is happening? I am running XP Professional

If you ever installed XP-Antispy, it disables a dll XP-SP1 needs.
The dlls may also have been done in by other things. Do these steps.
Delete the content of the folder Windows\System32\Catroot2
Be sure you look at CATROOT2 (not Catroot )

Go to Start > Run and type
regsvr32 licdll.dll <enter>
regsvr32 regwizc.dll <enter>
