I installed the automatic update Q811493 on Friday 4/18.
On restarting, noticed serious degradation in all
application, even the mouse buttons don't respond as fast
as they used to. Machine seems many times slower than
before. This morning, Wednesday 4/23, I restored system
to prior checkpoint and things are back to normal. How do
I contact microsoft? Anybody else have this problem?

Hi Herb,

I just installed this update and after the restart my
keyboard was mapped incorrectly (i->5).
I also did a system restore (first time) to a prior

checkpoint and things are back to normal.

I'm wondering if the system restore is the correct route
to roll back a windows update. What is the proper
procedure to undo the update?

I couldn't find anywhere specific on the MS site to
submit a Windows Update issue.

Hi Chris

Have you got any more details on your keyboard being mapped wrongly after the Q811493 update. I haven't heard of this as to date, but will report it with any other info you might have. The best way to 'undo' an update is through Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs - scroll down until you find Q811493.

Hi Will,

About 5 letters were re-mapped to numbers:
i -> 5
g -> 4
r -> 5

I will do the remove program function in a bit.

Sounds weird I know but everything was fine prior to the
install, just finished typing an email, then done the
install & restarted. Then went back to my email and
reply to a message when I noticed the issue. I opened
Notepad and the text came out with the same issue. I
restarted but the issue still present. Then shut down
and start-up with still the same issue. Then done the
system restore and the issue is now gone.

Thanks,
Chris

This update (811493) has caused many many people problems. Recommended
procedure is to uninstall it from add/remove programs. The code for 811493
has a conflict with many virus detect programs.

Thanks, Chris. There have been 'slow down' problems with this update, but not your keyboard problem. I'll report it ASAP. Thanks again.

I didn't think that the coding was in the public domain.
