I'm using the built-in XP driver for my HP 3300c scanner.
However I would like to download and use the HP version,
as it is more complete. How do I get it to work? It seems
like XP doesn't want me to use HP's software, as when I
install it, I get a message that XP can't recognize that
there is a scanner installed. I purchased the HP CD that
was made specifically to work with XP Windows. I have a
4 USB connections, but it makes no difference which one I
plug into...the other USB ports are free. Can anyone
help??? Thanks

This is what I did: Wih the scanner on, go into the
device manager and uninstall the XP driver then install
the HP software. If I remember correctly, you will be
prompted to reboot. After XP loads, a window will pop up
saying that the driver is not digitally signed by MS.
Press the "Continue Anyway" button. I think you are
prompted to reboot again. If you bought the CD from HP,
you didn't have to. I downloaded the newest software from
HP 2 months ago for free and I haven't had a problem. See
if there is a Read Me file on the CD. It might explain it
there also.

I have a 3 month old 3400C scanner which had no XP driver
on the CD. However all I did was go to HP's website and
download the (20+MB!) upgrade. Left the original Windoze
98 drivers installed than ran the upgrade patch and
BINGO! All running like it used to.
