Hello,
I wonder if someone can help...or point me in the right direction. I want to
transfer data from an old laptop running win98SE to my new machine running
XP. In the past I have done this with a crossover cable and NetBeui or IPX.
I tried the direct connection wizard but an ethernet crossover cable is not
listed. I am sure the answer is simple but I am having problems.
Thanks for your help.
Pete

Ps. I have also used the small network option and tried to give the 2
computers the same workgroup , subnet and diff IP addresses, still no joy

Hi

Just plug the cable in both the network cards and run the network wizard in
XP, then take your XP CD run the network wizard off the CD and this of
course follow all the instructions.
This should set up both machines and if you want it will set up internet
sharing as well.
Hope this helps.

pjwb: You should be able to install NetBeui on your XP platform
from the XP CD. The Web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/pro/using/itpro/networking/netbeui.asp

Then you can do what you want exactly as you did before XP.

Update,

Unfortunately Simon's help to no avail. the laptop needs to be used at work
and at home and this strategy removes the work network settings. Have
decided to simply use IPX/SPX for connecting laptop (XP) to desktop (98SE)
at home, and TCP/IP for the laptop to work network connection. At present
internet access at home is not an issue.
