XP's Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) is designed for use only on a
direct modem connection to the Internet. Since you have a broadband
router, ICF doesn't provide any additional protection from Internet
hackers, and I recommend disabling it.
Configure Norton's firewall to allow access by computers on your local
area network and to block access by all other computers.
The broadband router blocks all types of undesired incoming traffic
from the Internet. What it can't do (and neither can ICF) is block
undesired outgoing traffic from your computers to the Internet. That
type of traffic can come from viruses or worms that get into your
computers. Configure Norton's firewall to block undesired outgoing
traffic.
