I also have a problem with the POP3 service or something.
Everytime I use outlook express and try to send/receive
mail I have to cancel it and then press the button again.
At that point WINXP prompts me with the options of
either "working offline" or "try again." when i try again
it works fine.
does anyone know what's wrong?
help me,
tomkit
The Advanced Settings menu doesn't do what you think it does.
Enabling services in the Advanced Settings menu allows other Internet
users to access servers running on your network. For example, you
might have a web server running on an ICS client computer. By
enabling "Web Server (HTTP)" in the Advanced Settings menu, you allow
other Internet users to connect to your web server, passing through
the Internet Connection Firewall and the ICS host computer.
That menu has nothing to do with what services your computers can
access when they connect to the Internet. Go back to the Advanced
Services menu and disable all of them.
I think that you've run into a common problem with DSL connections
that use PPP Over Ethernet (PPPoE). There's a bug in the Windows
PPPoE program that runs on the host computer that can cause connection
problems on ICS client computers. Here are some possible fixes:
1. Find the right MTU setting on the client computers, as shown here:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107
and then make the setting manually or use DrTCP to make it:
http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html
2. Download the free RASPPPoE program and install it on the host
computer. Use it instead of XP's PPPoE program. Details at these
sites:
