XP RECOVERY FROM PARTITION

I was in the process of doing a reovery from the partition on by hard drive
and while reinstalling Windows XP the power went out. When I restarted my
computer it keeps telling me that the system did not finish installing,
please reinstall windows. When I click ok on the window that says to do this
my computer restarts and I end up right back where I started. The system did
not finish installing, please reinstall.

How do I reinstall if my operating is on the partition drive and I do not
have a CD? My computer is a HP Pavilion 533W.

I doubt that you can do it without a CD or copy of the CD on HDD.

I would NEVER EVER use a Windows OS if I didn't have the CD for that
OS.
Unless you think you'll never have a problem.

Try restarting and hitting F10 when the first HP screen starts and see if it
will go back to the recovery program.

call hp and see if you can still get a set of restore cd's (warrantee
period?)
if not, it's os puchase time.

This document explains how to reset an HP PC's software to its original
state. All work stored on the hard drive might be lost unless backed up to
another form of media (CDs, floppies, Zip, or a second hard drive). This
document is divided into sections based on the different ways of performing
a full system recovery. Use the section that best fits your needs.

CAUTION: If extra hard drives have been added to the PC, disconnect the IDE
and power cable from the back of the extra drive before performing a system
recovery to prevent data loss on the new drive.

CAUTION: If the PC has a Personal Media Drive, remove the drive from the
drive bay before performing the recovery.

HP PCs that ship with Microsoft Windows XP do not come with recovery CDs.
Instead, they use a hidden space (partition) on the hard drive to store the
recovery information. The use of a hidden partition provides a convenient
process that eliminates the use system recovery discs that may be lost or
scratched. Recovery discs for Windows XP are available from HP for a minimal
cost. Go to the section " Related support " for ordering information.


CAUTION: If Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been or will be
installed, update your computer with all of the Windows XP updates available
from the HP Software Download site before proceeding. Doing so, may prevent
start up issues.

Recovering the system from the Windows XP desktop

Disconnect all peripherals (including the Personal Media Drive) and internal
non-preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and
mouse.

From the Windows XP desktop, click Start, All Programs, and then HP Tools,
and then HP PC System Recovery.

or

Click Hewlett-Packard, hp pavilion pc tools, and hp pc system recovery.

or

Click PC Help & Tools, and then HP PC System Recovery.

The Recovery screen will appear with the question: Do you really want to
start HP PC System Recovery?

Click Yes to continue the recovery process.

When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform
a normal, non-destructive recovery.

To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

CAUTION: A destructive recovery will format the hard drive. This will delete
all the information on the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and the
original software that came with the computer.

After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues
into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer
finishes the setup.


NOTE: It may take a long time to complete Windows setup. This time varies
and may take over an hour, depending on the amount of files that were stored
in the user account folders (Like My Documents and the Desktop).

When you can access the Windows desktop, immediately connect to the Internet
and update the computer software as follows:

Update the system virus definitions .

Get the latest critical system updates using Microsoft's Windows Update .

Update the HP software on the system .

Recovering the system without using Windows

Disconnect all peripherals (including the Personal Media Drive) and internal
non-preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and
mouse.

Turn on the computer.

When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10 key repeatedly until
a recovery menu appears. The progress indicator that first appears does not
indicate that a recovery is taking place. The progress indicator represents
the time before the recovery process is started.

When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform
a normal, non-destructive recovery.

To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

CAUTION: A destructive recovery will format the hard drive. This will delete
all the information on the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and the
original software that came with the computer.
