I understand that Microsoft nor HP are developing new drivers for the HP
Scanjet 5p to work under WinXP. I think both companies have a moral
obligation to suport their products. I dont want to buy a new scanner, mine
worked perfectly under all previous Windows versions. Anyone out there who
can help me?

I have this scanner, and it works perfectly under XP Pro.
It uses the MS drivers.

When the scanner is connected via an scsi (Adaptec) and not with the
original HP card, and you remove the MS software for this scanner, you
can install HP Deskscan 2.9 and use this software with the scanner.

I have found the solution by accident.
The old ISA scsi card needs the Win2000 driver 416w2k.zip
I have the XP home upgrade version
Start installing Windows ME
Try to setup HP Precision Scan 3 with the help of the file sj276xx.exe and
the original 6 diskettes, not the driver diskette
When this works, then upgrade to XP , go to the question-mark of the Scsi
(in conf system hardware) and point to the w2k driver

If you have the scanner connected to the symbios logic
ISA SCSI contoller that came with the scanner you can get
a Windows 2000 driver for the card at

http://www.lsilogic.com/support/support+drivers/hpdrivers.

This works with windows XP and after installing this
driver windows XP will recognise the scanner

I hope this works for you

Do you have a PCI-SCSI card or are you using the original ISA-SCSI card
which came with the 5P?
I have a 5P currently connected via its supplied ISA-SCSI card to my W98SE
machine.
I'd like to connect it to my XP system which has a motherboard with no ISA
support.
If I get a PCI SCSI card what do I go for? ANy SCSI card? Aren't there at
least two different sizes of SCSI connectors?
Will I need to get SCSI drivers? - or are these the MS drivers you refer to?
Are you using any HP software at all for your 5P, under XP?
