Status of the Creative SB Audigy as "Windows cannot
start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry is incomplete or damaged
(Code 19) and Creative Game Port as "Windows cannot load
the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39).
10. I chose the "drivers only" option in SB install.
While the drivers were loading I received the Windows
File Protection" window with the statement "Files that
are required for Windows to run properly have been
replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system
stability Windows must restore the original versions of
these files." "Insert your Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 1 CD now." After the disk was inserted the
Prompt disappeared.
11. Rechecking MSINFO32, I got the results in Table

Is one or the other device not functioning properly? If
one or both of them are not functioning properly you
forgot to mention it.
IRQ sharing is ok as long as devices are designed for IRQ
sharing.

My apologise for having you review this history but I am
really at my wits end on dealing with this problem. Here
is my original message to Creative and their response:
My Message:
I switched from analog to digital speakers with Inspire
5700. After getting everything enabled to digital and
upgrading my software from your site, I have two
problems.
1. Under Speaker Settings, Calibrate, only left and right
channels function. Other channels are dead. In the
second, third and fourth screens (under Calibrate) only
the
center channel speaker works. There is no audio from the
other speakers at all. 2. I tried to upgrade my WDM
drivers with file "AUD2drvl11030205.exe" from your site
but
it locks up my machine, as in the mouse cursor doesn't
move
any more and the CTRL, ALT, DEL routine does nothing.
Windows XP dies.
Error Messages Received:
There are no error messages on screen, however, under
event
viewer I get "Volume Shadow Copy Service error:

error calling routine CoCreatelnstance. hr= 0x80040206",
and "The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code

only.
Their response:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System >
Hardware > Device Manager
2. Open up the "Sound Video and Game Controllers" group
3. Copy down everything in this group, and respond with
this information
RESPOND WITH IRQ LIST
1. Click START > RUN
2. type MSINFO32 into the line, and OK
3. You should see "Microsoft System Information"
4. click the + beside "Hardware Resources"
5. click "IRQs", you should get a listing in the right
windows
6. click on the menu EDIT > Select All or press the CTRL
+ A keys
7. click on the menu EDIT > Copy or press the CTRL + C
keys
8. Please respond with your IRQ list, Press the CTRL + V
to paste the text
I will need to know the exact model number. To check for
the model number you will need to remove the card from
the system. While holding the metal clip portion of the
card in your left hand, the model number is usually in
the upper right hand corner of the card. The model number
usually starts with two letters and is followed by four
numbers such as this: CTxxxx (where xxxx is the four
numbers and CT may also be SB or ES). Also there may be
an ink stamp on the reverse side of the card. This will
be stamped directly to the card and not on a sticker.
Please reply with the model and ink stamp numbers.

I appreciate your help. Let me hear from you soon as
I am experiencing unexpected Re boots when I use your
programming.
Ben Oglesby
And Theirs after receiving the above:
Ben,
You do have an IRQ conflict plus the IRQ is on a virtual
IRQ. Here are detailed steps for clearing up this problem:
The way to clear up the IRQ conflict is to move the sound
card to a different PCI slot.
After you move the card to a different slot, go back into
Device Manager, to check the IRQs again and see where
things have moved to. Anything over IRQ #12 is a virtual
IRQ. I prefer using IRQ #5, if you can set it in the
bios, try that. IRQ #5 is sometimes reserved for the
soundcard.
Anyway, keep moving the sound card around until you have
everything on it's own IRQ.
If you can't get the IRQs to change, go to start, run,
type in MSCONFIG. Choose the Boot.INI file.
click on Advanced Options. Put a check in the box
by /PCILOCK. This lets you move the card to change IRQs
in XP.
Once you get the card onto it's own IRQ, go to safe mode
(restart and press F8 for safe mode) and remove all
listings
for Creative (or any other old audio software) in Device
Manager under "Sound, Video & Game Controllers". If you
see anything called a MPU401 device, disable that as well
(not remove, just right click and disable).
Also if you have a category called "Other", remove any
sound oriented listings there also.
Then go to the Control Panel, to Add/Remove Programs.
Find your Creative Sound Card and remove it. Select ALL.
After it is finished it will ask you to reboot your
computer. Say No. Then go back to Add/Remove and look for
any more Creative listings (or listings
for any old audio devices) and remove them all.
Then right click on the Start button and go to Explore.
On the left side of the screen, scroll to the top, click
on the + by the C drive. Go down to Program Files. Under
Program Files, completely delete the Creative folder,
just right click it and delete.
Then insert the Audigy CD. Hold down on the left shift
key to keep it from autorunning. Right click on the CD
drive and go to Explore. Choose Audio > English or Common
(on the Audigy 2, just straight to drivers) > Drivers >
CT ZAPxx.exe.
Click on that file and uninstall the wdm drivers.
After they are all gone, empty your recycle bin and then
re-start your computer. Once it boots up and windows
detects it, cancel the wizard and reinstall your Creative
software from the original disk . If you experinece
problems, please update the drivers to those we offer on
our website.
Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
Here are the last steps and information I gave Creative:
Response from Customer: 5/15/2003 7:26:06 PM
No, I did not check speaker output
PCI LOCK is turned on in MSCONFIG
BIOS have been set as follows:
IRQ 7 = Slot 1
IRQ 5 = Slot 2
IRQ 10 = Slot 3 and 64 bit slots 1 and 2
IRQ 12 = Slot 4
"Resources Controlled by" is set to "Manual" the
option is "Auto (ESCD)
And all IRQs are set to "PCI/ISA" the option
is "Reserved"
The Adeptec Raid Card is in 64 bit Slot 1
The Audigy Card has been moved to 32 bit Slot 3
Note: this mother board has (2) 64 bit Slots Number 1
and 2 and (4) 32 bit slots Numbered 1 to 4. 32 Bit
Slot 3 and 64 bit Slots 1 and 2 must share the same
interrupt setting in BIOS.
MSINFO32 Reports the following IRQs
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
IRQ 5 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443
OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 10 Multimedia Audio Controller OK
IRQ 12 IEEE 1394 Controller OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 16 Intel(R) PRO/100+ Server Adapter (PILA8470B)
OK
IRQ 18 Adaptec 2000S Ultra160 SCSI RAID Controller
OK
IRQ 19 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host
Controller - 2442 OK
IRQ 22 Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead OK
IRQ 23 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host
Controller - 2444 OK
The following steps were performed in order:
1. Reboot in Safe Mode
2. In Device Manager all Audio References were
Uninstalled
3. In Add Remove Programs All Creative and other
Sound Software was uninstalled
4. C:\Program Files\Creative Folder was deleted.
5. CTZAPxx.exe was executed from CD ROM Drive I
and drivers were stated to have already been deleted.
6. Reboot and cancelled out of the New hardware
wizard and ran MSINFO32 again with the same results
as above. The IRQs did not change.
7. During Sound Blaster Audigy 2 software and
Driver installation, I selected Custom and chose not
to install the Mini CD Center, and the Demo stuff nor
did I install the Creative Media Source. If this is
successful I will install the Media Source later.
During the Driver installation I received the Windows
Prompt, "Files that are required for Windows to run
properly have been replaced by unrecognized
versions. To maintain system stability Windows must
restore the original versions of these
files." "Insert your Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 1 CD" Following that was the Notification
window that the WDM drivers had not passed "Windows
Logo Testing" I selected "Continue anyway". I got
another notification that the Game Port drivers had
not passed "Windows Logo Testing", I
selected "Continue Anyway"
8. Drivers installed along with all Sound
Blaster Audigy 2 software, I ignored the Windows
Request and did not overwrite the files.
9. I exited without installing the Media
Source. Prompted to restart now, I chose to restart
later so that I could run MSINFO the results are
displayed in Table 3. As you can see, the same
problem is repeated. IRQ 18 is shared by both the
Adaptec Raid Controller and the Audigy Card.
10. Lastly, I put the Windows Service Pack 1 CD
in drive I and the windows message disappeared.
11. I ran MSINFO again and found no change in IRQ
addressing.
12. I rebooted and got the Found New Hardware
Wizard for the IEEE 1394 controller. I cancelled out
of that to run MSINFO again to find the results the
same as Table 3.
13. After running Device Manager and reinstalling
the drivers (Also not passing Windows Logo Testing) I
found that it had changed from IRQ 12 to IRQ 19
sharing that interrupt with the USB Host Controller.
Table 3
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
IRQ 5 Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443
OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 12 IEEE 1394 Controller OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 16 Intel(R) PRO/100+ Server Adapter (PILA8470B)
OK
IRQ 18 Adaptec 2000S Ultra160 SCSI RAID Controller
OK
IRQ 18 Creative SB Audigy OK
IRQ 19 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host
Controller - 2442 OK
IRQ 22 Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead OK
IRQ 23 Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host
Controller - 2444 OK
As you can see, the same problem is repeated. IRQ 18
is shared by both the Adaptec Raid Controller and the
Audigy Card. The change in IRQs is related to driver
installation. Please help.

One is that win98/2k/xp don't pay much attention to bios
irq settings, which I assume you have already surmised.
The other is that I don't think the tech explained it just
right. I don't think there is a conflict with the scsi
card. I think the prob is that the sound card does not
like the fact that it is on a virtual irq. A sound card
usually needs a hard, physical irq and doesn't like
virtual irqs at all.
You have to keep swapping slots until the sound card,
alone, takes irq5 in BIOS, all by itself.
After you do that I would suggest that you then remove all
pci cards, except of course, the video, ( if it is pci, )
scsi and sound card. Disable USB in BIOS. Disconnect any
other devices that you possibly can. Remove all of the
drivers, etc for all of the cards and devices that you
remove. Get down to a bare minimum until you boot up and
get the sound card on irq5 all by itself.
Then, one by one, add a device, install the drivers and
keep assuring that the sound card stays on irq5. Keep
doing that until the sound card moves off of irq5.
Bingo! You found your prob.
Work with it and see what you can do.
I know what you are going through because I have been
there but the bottom line is that you have to start out
from scratch. Let the other devices get put on virutal
irqs. Also, it sounds as if you are trying to jam too
many devices into the system.
You didn't list the LPT port so I am going to assume that
you have it disabled in BIOS and that you are possibly
printing to a network printer or print server. You can
force, in BIOS, some other device to take the LPT port.
You can also force winxp to use the LPT port since, by
design, winxp does not like to print to LPT ports anyway.
It is designed to print to network printers.
You CAN get the audigy on irq5 all by itself but it takes
patience and starting out from almost scratch.

It must be quite late where you are. It is the middle of
the afternoon here. I live in China. If you need to we
can continue this tomorrow. In other words don't feel
like this is life or death. It is just anoying.
I will continue to write until this bear is solved. A
lot of expensive system here. I can't quit until it runs
right.
