I was able to successfully install my SyQuest EZFlyer drive under
Windows XP by completing the following steps:

Note: Before beginning make sure your SyQuest drive is connected
properly to the computer and is turned on. If turning on the SyQuest
drive crashes your computer (like it did mine) you can leave it off
for now.

1. Grab the "Windows 2000 P/P (win2k.exe - 3/31/00 - 106 KB)" driver
off the SyQuest site.
(ftp://ftp.syquest.com/pub/drivers/ezflyer230/pp/win2k.exe).

Note: Driver downloads as a "self-extracting" zip file. Extract files
to a directory you your PC. You need to remember this directory. I
used "C:\syquest"

2. Next you need to check your system for previously installed Hard
Drive adapters and remove them. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click "Start"
b. Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage".
c. In the left tree view select "Device Manager".
d. In the right tree view double-click "System devices".
e. If device "SCM PPort HD Adapter" exists, right-click & select
"Uninstall".
f. Close the "Computer Management" dialog.

3. Open the "Add New Hardware" wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click "Start" then "Control Panel"
b. Click "Printers and other Hardware"
c. Click "Add Hardware" on the "Also See" menu located on the left.

4. Click "Next"

5. Select "Yes, I have already connected the hardware". (even if you
haven't), then click "Next"

6. Select "Add a new hardware device" (it's the last option), then
click "Next".

7. Select "Install the hardware that I manually select...", then click
"Next".

8. Select "Show All Devices", then click "Next". (wait, could take a
few minutes)

9. Click "Have Disk..." button, then click "Browse" to locate the
directory you choose is step 1. I used "C:\syquest".

10.Select the file named "EPHDW2K.INF" (you may not see the .INF part
of the file name), then click "OPEN", and then click "OK".

11.Under "Model" you should see "SCM PPort HD Adapter", click "Next".

12.Click "Next" to start installing the device.

13.Click "Finish", then select click "Yes" to reboot you machine.

Note: While machine is rebooting turn on the SyQuest drive if it is
not already turned on.

Good luck!!!

Hi, Pinewaves.

That's good news. I don't presently have any SyQuest drives and never had
an EZFlyer, but these questions come up often in the alt.syquest newsgroup.
Several users might be grateful if you could post this message there as
well.

I also have installed the driver suggested per the instructions provided and
am seeing device status code 31. Could someone who has a PP EzFlyer 230
working with XP please provide specifics about their printer port setup.
Some of the LPTx port setup options are:
1) port mode EPP vs. ECP
2) resource method: never use an interrupt vs. use any interrupt
3) enable/disable legacy Plug & Play detection

Any other suggestions to help isolate the problem would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
