This has been happening to me quite often now. When I try
to start my computer I get an error 'Primary hard drive
not found' and 'Optical Drive not found'. My setup is to
boot with CD/Cd-Rw then with HDD. I'm using XP and here's
my computer profile:

Computer Model Inspiron 8000
BIOS Vendor Dell Computer Corporation
BIOS Version A22
BIOS Date 03-03-03
Windows Version Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Processor
Manufacturer Intel Pentium III processor
Clock Speed 700MHz
L2 Cache Size 256

Memory
Memory Slot 1 Description [DIMM_A]: 128Mb
Memory Slot 2 Description [DIMM_B]: 64Mb
Available Memory 32.82 %
Page File Size 465.11Mb
Available Page File 58.65 %
Virtual Memory 656.57Mb
Available Virtual Memory 51.12 %

Hardware
Type Description
Toshiba DVD/CD-ROM Drive
Buslink External USB 2.0 CD-RW
Modular CD-RW MATSHITA UJDA360
Disk Drives FUJITSU MHR2020AT 18.63Gb
External SCSI Disk Device 27.95Gb
Display Adapters Mobility M4 32Mb
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers Intel(r) 82801BA Bus Master IDE
Controller
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

Now, I insert a bootable XP CD on the DVD-rom (the
modular CD-RW won't work during bootup), but it returns
an ERROR 'CDBOOT: MEMORY OVERFLOW ERROR'. The computer is
in a loop now and won't go anywhere so I have to turn it
off and switch it back on. Sometimes switching it off and
back on would work and it would boot on the CD and
sometimes it won't. I went to Fujitsu online and did a
drive Diagnostic. It can't find my Primary Drive. Another
time I use the DVD-rom on the left side of my laptop but
it gave me a "bluescreen". Then the dreaded Errors appear
again. Sometimes I have no problem restarting after
software installation that requires reboot or just
plainly going to 'Start/Turn Off/Restart'. Another time I
tried to boot from the CD and setup started and loaded
files and it returned whith a message 'vga.ini corrupt.
(I just don't know if the CD fixed it or not) So. my
question is - does anybody know of a FIX? I know a match
or a hammer can do the work, but that wouldn't be
challenging is it? Thanks in advance. You can email me at
rdm...@hotmail.com.. Thanks again.
