I was messing around with a usb printer interface and while I was working
with it I put it in different ports on my usb hub. Doing this caused
multiple "Virtual Printer Port for USB" ports listed in my list under
"Ports" in the printer device manager.

Question is how do you remove these? Removing the usb device has not
worked nor has trying to delete the ports, says command is not supported.

Ideas??

TIA.

You probably need to uninstall the printer drivers, then reinstall them. It
seems this is normal behavior in XP, when you change USB ports for certain
devices, it creates a new hardware device. I had 3 entries each for my Intel
PC Camera and my USB Scanner, #1, #2 and #3, depending on which USB port
they were plugged in to.

What was installed was the default drivers in XP. I have not seen any
drivers listed to uninstall. Unless a safeboot is in order to clear them,
I have not tried that. Even uninstalling/reinstalling the printer has not
helped. At this time I can't even get it to print via usb, I'm thinking
its confused and not picking the correct port. That's why I wanted to
clear them all out and start over.

You can try removing them from safe mode, probably removing the printer
would remove the ports as well, or go into the printer properties and choose
which port to print from, I believe you have the option of deleting them
there as well.

But if you simply remove the printer from control panel, or the Printers
window, it should ask if you want to delete the files as well. What I ended
up doing was marking each plug with the port number, so that if I remove the
plugs, I place them back in the same position.

Well I can't find anything in the registry that I can delete or changed
that makes sense to me. Nor can I delete these devices.

Just thought I would try one more time and see if anyone has any
suggestions on how to get rid of them so I can reinstall just one.
