My computer has developed a habit of crashing with the blue screen and
the error "Stop 0x0000008E (0x80000004, 0x806ECAE1, 0xA9C35570,
0x00000000)"

I tried googling it, but came up with no results for my specific
version of the Stop 0x0000008E error, nor did microsoft have anything in
their database.

After turning off my computer with the button and restarting, it gives
me the message that Windows has recovered from a serious error with the
further information:
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : 80000004 BCP2 : 806ECAE1 BCP3 :
A9C35570
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

This crashing only happens when I'm running the game Dominions 3. It
doesn't happen every time I run the game, and there doesn't seem to be a
specific thing in the game that triggers it (it's happened while
clicking, pressing a key, sitting there doing nothing...)

I've tried reinstalling the game, which didn't help. I do think there
might be something wrong with the patch for the game, because I didn't
have this problem before I patched...

The error message on the blue screen suggests that it might be a driver
but doesn't say which one, and as far as I know my drivers are all up to
date.

Oddly, it doesn't happen when I run other heavy programs like
Photoshop.

My computer is an MSI Wind laptop, running Windows XP, SP3
Intel Atom 1.6ghz
1GB RAM

Let me know if you need other info. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Sounds like the patch for Dominions 3 has some bugs, Llythia. Is there
any reason why you need that patch? If not, get rid of it.

Yeah, sadly I need the patch (can't play multiplayer without it, and
multiplayer is kind of the point) but do you think it's otherwise
hurting my computer to be crashing like that?

Hi Llythia! No it most likely isn't harming your computer because
Windows is stopping any harm from happening, except crashing your
computer.

You can try this though and see it if cures your problem.

Control Panel
System
Advanced (tab)
Performance Settings (button)
Data Execution Prevention (tab)
Select "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
OK (button)
OK (button)

This sometimes cures those kinds of problems. Good luck.
