How...in the name of God...do I "uncheck" all those programs from loading
in the startup task bar on the lower right side of my screen??!!
With Windows98 it was simple: Start/Run/msconfig/startup.then simply UNCHECK
those programs you didn't want to load.
Tried that with XP Pro and always get this screen on startup telling me I
have altered startup adversly and that I "MUST" go back to "Normal" startup
(All those programs I do not want!!!! @$#%*!&^)
I have been told also that if do this (Uncheck is msconfig/startup) you will
screw up the registry or something with XP.
Does anyone know how to correctly and safely "de-select" unwanted startup
programs from loading?
Much appreciated in advance!

It just as simple and actually works the same exact way. You didn't read the
notification correctly. It doesn't say you have to back to normal, it simply
is telling you that you used msconfig to disable startup items. Just check
the box to never show the massage again and your done. It's the same as it
was in win98.
BTW - first you should check each programs options and turn off the start up
when windows loads option if one is available. If there is no option, then
use msconfig.

Hi Matt,

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Note: Once the script below has been run, there will be no selective
startup messages.

Just the same.

You get a screen warning that you have modified startup, but not saying
anything about *MUST*. Check the 'do not show this again' box and click
Exit.

It is usually preferable though to change settings in the options of the
programs concerned to 'do not run at windows startup'
