I'm copying all my documents to a CDRW using the software that came with the
driver (Adaptec Direct CD) ... I read with XP I don't need to use this
software but with XP will I be able to get my data back when I switch to XP.
Planning to do a clean install !!! Thanks

do not make your backup a CD RW !!

just copy the data to a CD that any computer can access. there is a big
difference.

At this time WinXP cannot read the Adaptec CDRW data, a fix is on the way
soon though.

My data is stalled on my CDRW but the data that I put on CDR is accessible.

The use of a CDRW is irrelevant. What is important is whether UDF or ISO/Joliet
file systems are used. It is Adaptec/Roxio's UDF software, DirectCD that does
not work. There is absolutely no reason not to use CDRW disks with EasyCD, Nero
or even XP's Roxio/Joliet mastering software.

I agree. Your Adaptec Direct CD software is at fauly not
XP. It reads CD-RWs just fine and writes to them just
fine. The reading part in builtin to most mordern Windows
versions.... (no add on software).. To write UDF on the
cd-rw ( Big floppy) I now use Nero In_CD 2.26.... works
just like Direct CD and works very well.

XP can read a disk (CD-RW) that was created and written to with DirectCD
just fine, even without DirectCD loaded. Don't worry about your older
backups being readable or not. You are simply using the UDF filesystem.

as I indicated in my earlier post,
make the CD so that any computer can access it.
adaptec has an option for that. it will write to the CD in the most
universal format.

the CDs that I made using their RW format are not accessable at this time
until www.roxio.com gives up a fix for XP

This is not true. When I tried to read a CDRW made under ME with XP,
it tried to install UDF software and failed. XP could NOT read the
disc.

I solved the problem by obtaining a Demo copy of Instant CD+DVD from
www.vobinc.com. It does packet sriting and not only allowed me to
read CDRW created with Adaptesc's DirectCD, but also to have direct
access to the CDRW under XP.

Don't know why it works for me...I've taken CD-RW's made under Win2K with
DirectCD and can read them fine on my DVD-ROM drive and my CD-RW drive under
XP (no DirectCD installed), plus I can read them in my wife's laptop
(DVD-ROM/Toshiba) without DirectCD installed.
