Open the Messenger Options > Preferences, uncheck 'run this program when
windows starts'.

startup tab and uncheck the msmgs box. Now you know where
your startup apps are located as well as your boot
options. Good luck.

It puts it in every time I run Outlook Express Mark, how do I prevent it
from doing that?

Jack,
I use a program called "Startup Cop" to monitor what app's get launched at
startup. From this I'm able to disable Messenger from loading with no
problems. If you want to check it out:

In Outlook Express, if you have your contacts pane enabled, it will log into Messenger to get the status of your contacts.

To stop this, you have two choices
i) disable the contact pane
or
ii) tell the contact pane not to check the status of messenger contacts...
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.

Jason,

This solution doesn't seem to work for me, if I have the contact pane open.
I tried with "hide messenger" as one word also. I've also verified that
"logon to Messenger" is unchecked in options.

Am I missing something somewhere?

Bruce
