Define functions:
i(u) = 1 + u works ok.
u(i)= 1+ i doesn't ??
Do I just have a corrupted copy ?

Nothing to do with Windows XP - try a Powertoy newsgroup.

It is well known that the Windows Calculator has always been
faulty. Get one of the hundreds of free replacements.

Would you care to give one or two examples?

Examples of WC being faulty or 100's of free replacements? Be
specific, you're a mathematician.

Powertoys is a Windows product, although never "officially

Well, I looked, and I found these two - and it took a while.

So it appears it's an old-sh and/or very rare problem, or I was
just talking out of my ass, whichever you prefer ;-)

OTOH the old Pentium bug was also "almost never" to be
encountered in RL.

Season's Greetings.

Mhm. The first link you mention refers to Windows 3, which was retired about
20 years ago. The second link is an single and unconformed report by the
owner of a Vista machine that pressing (=) will crash his machine. This is
not quite what I expected when you wrote "It is *well known* that the
Windows Calculator has *always* been faulty". The words "antique" and
"exotic/unconfirmed" come to my mind.

Well, I /did/ say

OTOH, I remembered after I sent that just a few days ago I saw
someone say somewhere that the WC was NFG, and said that doing
/something like/ (I can't remember, how could I) 20.00 - 20.01
gave an impossible result. I tried it and it WAS impossible and
incorrect. Anyway, who cares.

OTOH I tend to exaggerate and overgeneralize and I should never
have been born - I'm not joking, you just don't know me yet,
since I have barely started messing with XP and am new to
/these/ groups.
