Running Win Xp (home) p4 1.6 etc etc.
Somehow, my msinfo32.exe file has disappeared! No longer able to get my
system info when I hit that in acessories/tools/... Searched my entire drive
and it's gone?? Weird!
Anyone know how to get it back, or where to get it from?
Thanks!
Chris L.

Go>start\run and type in msinfo32 and hit enter or ok. Try
this. Good luck.

Ok you guys.
Someone has now sent me the file (just in case I need it) When I type in
"run" that file (msinfo32) at start, it just goes to the help and support
page.
If I need to put it back into my system, does it go into the "system"
folder? If not where.
What a weird problem, sorry.
System info worked fine before, just by going to accessories/system
tools/system info.
Worked fine before.

Here is a short cut you can use to display the information until you get
things sorted out.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Msinfo\Msinfo32.exe
/categories +all

*Note the directory where the file is usually located.

On my computer it's X:\Program files\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\
and X:\windows\system32\dllcache\
where X is the drive that XP is install upon.

Normally in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\MSINFO

I would go to the hidden folder Windows\inf, look for msinfo32.inf,
right click and take Install, which should set up correct registry
entries, and probably refresh the copy of the file from the dllcache too

I tried what you said. The file is on my computer, but every time I try to
go into it, it takes me to the "help and support center" It's the weirdest
thing! It worked fine before. When I would do the acessories/system
tools/system info thing, that's what I get! "help and support center"
Any clues?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

Testing has determined that what breaks Help and Support (the same way Easy
Cleaner does), also prevents System Information from running.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fixwinxphelp.htm

Does it run using this command: Go to Start/Run and type in: winmsd

If not: Verify your settings here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSInfo
Path value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\msinfo32.exe

Default value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSInfo\MSInfo32.exe
Path value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo

Another option is to check your Boot.ini for added operating systems.
Start/Run/Msconfig/Boot.ini
