Remote Desktop Disconnected
Your Remote Desktop session has ended, possibly for one of the following
reasons.

I am able to connect from the PC I am attempting to connect to to Windows
Server
"PC"s running Terminal Services and am able to connect from the Remote PC
client to those same servers. I don't have another client PC I can try
connecting to.
I uninstalled the NIC, rebooted.
I changed the IP from DHCP to assigned.
I removed the router and used just a hub.
Nothing works.
I'm able to connect to the PC with GoToMyPC.
What else can be changed to fix this, Format C?

Actually - they came 'setup' on many computers with Windows Vista. ;-)

Is there anything in the event log of the 'wanna-be host' computer?
Have you upgraded the video driver from the video card manufacturer?
What version of Windows XP is it? (Yes, Windows XP Professional... x64?
RTM, SP1a, SP2, SP3?)
The user you are attempting to use has a password and is in the "Remote
Desktop Users" group?
Firewall configured properly (is it the built-in firewall or other?)

nothing

Latest. Intel G35 Chipset, 1/29/09

Doesn't get that far, the screen appears for an instant and immediately the
error message popup appears.

The Windows Firewall is disabled. OneCare is also, because I use the router
firewall.
The router has Port Forwarding for 3389 to the named PC, but ieven inside
the firewall, and with the router out of the mix entirely, i.e., with just an
ethernet hub and two PCs and nothing else on the net, it is the same.
I've since renamed the PC and added it and removed it from the workgroup and
removed and reinstalled again the NIC driver to no avail.
I removed any hidden hardware also, because I had a 3Com NIC and upgraded to
a 1 Gigabit NIC using
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
again, to no avail.
I'm stumped, but at least GotoMyPC is a very good product and they actually
have support too, unlike Microshft.
