Hey guys,
I am having a strange problem in XP only.
I'm using a STARVIEW KVM SWITCH that shares a usb mouse and usb keyboard and
vga monitor with 4 other computers. The 4 computers are win2kserver, winxp
pro, win98se, and win2k pro.
I can switch between each one of the computers on the switch box with no
problems except from the xp computer. The XP can not pick up the mouse or
keyboard upon my return when I switch back to it. I then have to hit the
reset button on the computer to reboot.
None of the other computers have this problem.
It should be noted that the xp computer is a dual boot with win2k pro. The
win2k pro switches back and forth through the kvm with no problems so this
leads me to beleive this is a XP issue.

Please help.
Thanks,
Bill Kellum

did you ever try this per Mike Ketchen
If it's a USB device, go to the Start Menu and right-click
on My Computer. Click on the Hardware tab, then click on
Device Manager. At the end of the tree should be "Universal
Serial Bus controllers."

Expand that node (click on the little plus sign),
right-click on "USB Root Hub," and select Properties. Click
on the Power Management tab, uncheck the box labeled "Allow
the computer to turn off this device to save power," and
click OK.

That will keep Windows XP from turning off your USB devices
when it sees no activity (very annoying if you have a USB mouse).

This is weird.
I found a work around. Maybe you can explain why this seems to work.
If I shut down Outlook Express and aol instant messenger as well as
microsoft messaging,
I can leave Win Xp computer and switch to other computers on the switch and
then come back and I get my mouse and keyboard back on the Win XP computer.
If I switch while the 3 programs above are still running in the background,
I will not be able to get my keyboard and mouse back upon return.
So for the time being,
I make sure to shut down those 3 programs before switching out of Win XP.
