Opera is dribbling out the outgoing mail.
Ran a speed test and Opera is using only 10% of capability.

Something is wrong here.

Using Panda Free anti-virus but it is hardly showing on Process Exlorer
(PE) CPU %

Only three apps above 1% and up to 5% on PE.

Only thing you can do there, is an A/B comparison.
Using a second email client, destined for the same
SMTP server, check whether the upload rate goes
faster with that client. As a way of proving Opera
is broken.

And you should be using a copy of Wireshark, to
watch the status of sent packets, check for "duplicate"
indications, lots of black colored packets coming
back, and so on. That can aid in understanding whether
the issue is server-side or not.

When using that, remember to use View : Name Resolution
and turn on the bottom four or so items. You do that, so
symbolic names are used within the captured log
(www.sun.com instead of 192.168.1.1 style address).

Installed 1.10 as recommended.

WHat Protocol is important?
TCP
SSDP
ARP
UDP
BROWSER
DNS

What can I filter out?

Or what Capture Filter Profile should I set?

I need to figue out how to select filters too.

I just need something simple.

Can I get Outlook Express on Win XP?

TBird and Opera are not for me.

MS Live Mail is probably not supported.

OE is built in to XP. You have it already.

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components. Make
sure OE is checked.

If it is checked already.................

Copy this:

c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe

Start | Run and Paste it in | OK.

Now go to the Control Panel | Set Program Access and Defaults and set OE as
default and then you should have the shortcut.

The test case you're running, is a short one.
With only a couple minutes of collected trace.

I never bother with a filter.

I stop the trace, when I've got the
interval of interest covered.

It's the KISS principle at work. The most
important thing is the trace, annotated with
symbolic addresses. Everything else comes after
that.

With a utility like Procmon, I might be
more tempted to fashion a filter. With
Wireshark, I wouldn't even bother.

You gave the impression this problem was
reproducible each time. So the time to
run test case, collect trace, should be
short. Turn on Wireshark. Click Send
button in Opera. Turn off trace in Wireshark
(but don't throw away the trace), when done.

You can even export to text in there, if you
have to. An annoying number of options
are available.

Outlook Express, built into XP. You have it already. See Bruce's note
for more details IF you haven't seen it yet.

BasicISP.net
flawless, very inexpensive, any problem can reach anAmerican citizen to
help.

dial up modem formats: 56Kflex V.90
competitors: peoplepc netzero

BasicISP.net (800) 456-3118
PO Box 511

So far I get about 1 spam a week, maybe less.
