Can someone please help me out ?

Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers/Primary IDE Channel, there is no Advanced
Settings page for me to select dma or pio. Same for secondary channel.

Under Disk drives of Device Manager/Polices, the whole page with heading
Write caching & safe removal is shaded out so that I can't choose optimise
for safe removal or performance.

My system which was shop assembled:

Gigabyte 8irx
Intel 845 ddr
512 ddr sdram
Primary Master: LBA, ATA 100, 60042...
Primary Slave: None
Sec Master: CDrom, ata33
Sec Slave : CD-RW, PIO 4

Do you have the Intel Application Accelerator installed?

It sounds like you do, as that would be the reason that page is missing (that or you have some third party hard drive controller installed).

Those third party drivers should also come with some companion software (so to say) that will let you adjust the dma/pio modes.

If you have the Intel Application Accelerator installed, you should know
that it is only required for certain processors as listed in their FAQ.
Please go tot their website and determine if you need to have the
accelerator installed. Removing the application via Control Panel will
restore the Advanced Tab that you are missing.
