I recently installed Windows XP Home Ed.
Does Windows XP have a firewall within its workings? If
so, how do I know that it is working or how do I activate
it?

Go to My Network Places. Select "view network
connections" ... right click your network connection.
Choose properties, then select the advanced tab. There a
box to check that will enable the firewall.
