Put simply, I have an overly-elaborate home network. Devices are Beauty
(i7-920,win 7 ultimate), Beast (i7-920, win xp), File Server (celeron, win
xp), HTPC (q6600, win xp mce), 2 Iomega 1gB media drives, 2 networked
printers, and occasionally a notebook (win vista home). All are connected
through an 8-port Gigabit switch and from there to the internet through a
netgear router and then an AT&T U-verse gateway. Since internet access in
and out work fine on all computers we can probably safely forget about the
router portions. All computers are using Windows Firewall. All of the usual
cautions about shared account names, passwords, etc have been taken care of.

The problem: I can log onto HTPC and access every other device on the
network with no problem, read files, remote login, etc (except for the
notebook which doesn't support that). I can log onto any other computer and
access every other device on the network BUT NOT HTPC. So HTPC effectively
has a one-way path to the home network.

I have looked at services and settings on HTPC and have torn out much of
what remains of my hair but haven't come up with anything. Can anyone offer
any help about where to start looking?

TIA

A good starting point might be to post the output from the command below
when executed on HTPC and on one of the other PCs. I would also disable all
firewalls on HTPC while testing. What happens when you boot up HTPC in Safe
Mode with Networking?

Hmmmm. The command "below" does not work on my machine. ;-)
Perhaps you meant:
ipconfig /all
