I've just bought a bluetooth speaker. I turn it on, in Bluetooth mode,
and it goes into pairing mode (LED alternating red/blue; its manual says
it goes to solid blue once paired).
I go to My Bluetooth Places, and Add a Bluetooth Device. Next. AS AUDIO
comes up, as the speaker manual says it would; I select it, and Next. I
enter 0000 or 1234 and click Pair Now, or click Skip (I've tried all
three; the speaker's manual says all should work); I'll do 0000 this
time (result it the same regardless, anyway). I get "Select the services
you are interested in.", which lists only "Stereo Audio" (there was a
slight delay before this appeared, so I assume it got the list of
available functions from the device). Next. "Shortcuts for the selected
services have been created on the My Bluetooth Places screen of Windows
Explorer." OK. Finish.
Popup "BlueTooth Setup Wizard": "The operation could not be completed.
The error was 0x81000015" "OK".
I've googled that, and most of the hits seem to suggest a driver error.
I've not loaded any driver for this speaker (it didn't come with any and
the instructions don't mention one); as for the hardware in the PC, I
have paired Bluetooth devices before, and they have worked fine.
Speaker is still flashing pairing. In My Bluetooth Places, there is the
single entry AS Audio Stereo Audio (albeit with a headphones icon), Not
Connected. If I double-click, I get Connecting..., then the same popup.
The speaker works fine as an amplified speaker, if I connect it by wire
and select AUX rather than bT mode. (I actually bought it for that
purpose, but thought I'd check it out as a Bluetooth device since it has
the facility.)
Device Manager shows, under BlueTooth Devices, Bluetooth Bus Enumerator
and Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0 USB Device, both without warning
symbols. It shows various Bluetooth devices with warning symbols,
presumably things I've paired with in the past that aren't currently
turned on, which I'm reluctant to remove as presumably I'd have to pair
them again; BlueTooth Stereo Audio is also there under Sound, ...; I've
just tried uninstalling _that_ one, uninstalling from My Bluetooth
Places (it didn't ask for a password this time), ... lots of dinging
noises, popup new hardware found, popup Files Needed - btaudio.sys, find
that in C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\bin - all looking
very promising! - then the same popup. Then I see it's looking for the
file again (it's found [in Device Manager] Bluetooth Stereo Audio and
Bluetooth Hands-free Audio). During all this, speaker had given up and
gone back to standby; reawaking it, and doing a _little_ more fiddling,
and IT IS WORKING! (With slight delay - I use Leeos's Noisy
Keyboard/Mouse so it's very noticeable - but that's to be expected.)
I started this as a call for help, but thought I'd complete the account,
in case it helps anyone else seeing the same error. (Windows XP SP3.) I
_think_ what started things working was when I uninstalled BlueTooth
Stereo Audio from Device Manager.
The My Bluetooth Places Window seems not to be re-drawing properly, in
fact the screen updating seems decidedly sluggish; in fact anything
involving it is working oddly. Ah, I finally managed to close it -
though it closed this window too; fortunately, the post was saved in
Drafts.
