when using the wireless on my laptop I got following message at ipconfig:

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the
system is not functioning. Please contact Microsoft
Product Support Services for further help. Additional
information: Unknown media status code.

I have checked in Device Manager and there are no errors
all devices appear to be working properly.

I can get IP address from AP and access Internet.

When connected to wired network ipconfig shows no errors.

If I enable Routing and Remtoe Access service when usnig wireless only
ipconfig DOES NOT show any errors. Reported the IP correctly.

Any idea how to fix?

Thanks.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,

Restart your Routing and Remote Access services via Start/Run: services.msc
and then try again.

Kelly,
I know when Routing and Remote Access service is enabled and started I
don't get such problem. But the question is why I have to enable it. I
really don't use it.

Mine ain't runnin' either and I have no problem, but if you run a
Google search for:

Unknown media status code

There is plenty to read and how other people resolved this situation.

Let us know what the deal is when you have it working the way you
want.
