What autoexec.bat ? !  Did you think this was DOS ?  Autoexec is gone baby ...Windows XP is a REAL OS ....now you have Boot.ini.....

To change the temp and tmp vars.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, System

Click on Advanced, then Environment Variables.

AutoExec.bat is still here.  Get your facts straight.

 c:\autoexec.bat

And the length is?

(was re: Autoexec.BAT not there in WinXP)

Hint: A Zero byte file might as well not be there ...

I'm on my W2K box right now, but NORMALLY (if in Classic mode for
XP) you would go Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> System -->
Advanced --> Environment Variables and set it there.

Note that the default is per user when you change, so be SURE to
change the global and be SURE to be an administrator when you change this

Greetings --

WinXP has an AUTOEXEC.BAT file of 0 bytes in the root directory to
provide some backwards compatibility, but doesn't use it. To set
environmental variables, right-click the My Computer icon, select Properties
> Advanced > Environmental Variables.
