MS XP SP1a update problem

I'm reinstalling XP Home on an old computer. I'm using a really old
retail copy of XP SP1 as the newer releases of XP Home I have reject the
Product ID from the COA sticker.
During the install, the update package referenced in a knowledge base
article attempts to talk to
http://spSP1.microsoft.com/isapi/pstream3dll/xp/SP1.USA1106a. When the
download fails, the message asks you to go to the XP Service Pack Web
site, which apparently no longer exists. At least I can't find it. :-)
The error messages also references clicking on a button to download the
entire SP1a so you don't have to access the server.
Anyone know where that file can be found?
In theory, I should be able to install SP2 without SP1a, and as I write
this, so far so good in that regard.
But I would like to have a copy of the full install, just in case. I've
been around long enough to believe in Murphy's Law, never Assume, etc.!

At the risk of pissing off Brewster Kahle, you could try here. I clicked a blue dot in the 2006
section, and the download starts.

At one time, .exe files were stored "one byte short", so check the size when you get it.
They fixed that bug a couple years ago, but I have to mention it for completeness,
so you won't be too trusting.

Both of these links lead to the Express install, which is what I've been
using.

In searching, I did find a forum entry from years ago that said you
could skip 1a, despite MS's knowledge base article. That seems to be
true, as the installation of SP2 went off without a hitch, as did SP3,
and I'm doing the next group of high priority updates as I write.
Even at that, I still would like the complete file, and don't want to
resort to a torrents download. I don't, and never have, liked software
piracy, but when you can't get what you need via legitimate sources,
then I don't have a big issue. When I do use them, such as looking for
an old, old copy of XP Home (:grin:), I don't install a cracked/hacked
version, and I always have a product id.

Do you use Dropbox or similar? If you use Dropbox, and you have the
space, would you consider uploading it and emailing me the Shareable Link?

I'll remember this.
PC World *supposedly* has it, but they, like a lot of other sites
including MS, are just snots and won't let me download using this Mac.
Guess who's site and magazine will be ignored as much as possible by me?

If you prefer not to do Dropbox or similar, I'll fire up the Windows box
or XP Pro via virtual machine, and see what PC World has.

NOT skip SP2 and you should install SPI, SP2 and SP3 sequentially ?
However there was no problem with XP Pro, Home or 64bit.

remember was installing SP3 on some HP PC's with AMD CPU's. The installation on my old Compaq with an AMD went fine, but
my SO's BSOD'd on me. (She was not happy losing her email while I worked on it, but she got over it soon enough
<grin>. ) Once I found the lit on how to get around it, the installation went fine on hers, too. I've since moved on to
bigger and better (more power, rrr rrr rrr), but she's still using the same one. Works well for what she needs it for.

According that site (and Microsoft), the only difference between 1 and 1a is that 1a does not have VM.

No need to panic yet. But if you wait too long, Microsoft could always

I wonder why they removed it, unless they knew that MS Virtual PC 2004
was near.
At any rate, the links that Paul listed in his last post worked, and
I've got the file on a hard drive here.
