Based upon favorable reviews, I was ready to go with "Microsoft's" SyncToy
for synchronizing files and folders. (To be precise, I am not talking about
full system images.) But, in my previous thread, my intent was delivered
a severe blow by an observation that SyncToy was poor, compared with
SyncBack. Now I am confused.

Is there any concensus as to the best file and folder synchronization tool?

Thank you very much!

SyncToy works fine. Of the two, I like the interface of SyncToy better.
SyncBack is faster if a lot of files/folders are being synced at one
time. I believe SyncBack also has a built-in scheduler, while SyncToy
can be scheduled with Windows' Scheduled Tasks. Try both and see what
you like better.... they are both free, unless you want the extra
features of the paid version of SyncBack.... but you shouldn't need
them.

Apologies to OP for hyjacking the thred, but...

I have NEVER gotten any sync program to work satisfactorily for me.
But, this thread discussing SyncBack and SyncToy suggest I should
revisit such.

QUESTION:
Picture I have SYSTEM 1 with file A and SYSTEM 2 with file A. One day
I work on file A to create FILE B [file A is overwritten, but same
name, new date] The next week while working on SYS2, I work on file A
to create FILE C [file A is overwritten, but same name, new
information, and new date]

If I run SYNC applications; will Sync know I went down these two
spearate paths, and alert me, or will it just replace everything with
FILE C? [the latest date] so I end up with SYS1 FILE C and SYS2 FILE C
and I totally lost any information put into FILE B?

I have been using SecondCopy 7 for some time and it works fine. All aspects
of synchronisation can be customized by user.

The "Acronis" thread turned out to be mainly about the good and bad
features of ATI software. No poster (appearing here) mentioned
SyncBack and I see no negative observations about SyncToy
(the tool I use for routine backup, flawless so far.)

I use something called "Beyond Compare" to synch my NAS and an
old WSH box that I use as backup.

Dunno from SynchToy, SynchBack.... or even if Beyond Compare will
do exactly that... but my impression so far (after over a year's
steady use) is that it is a *seriously* classy product... and I'm
one of those users-from-Hell that manages to complain about
almost everything I use.

Bottom Line: Beyond Compare might be worth the 30 minutes or so
it would take to DL and test it.

Hi Don,

Here is the comment, from the "Acronis" thread, to which I was referring.
I feel sure that it was intended to be constructive though, not pejorative:
