It is Outlook Express, Hi Ho. Outlook doesn't have a news reader, using OE
as that resource. First, find out what news server your Internet Service
Provider uses and how they set it up. A lot of ISP's supply newsgroups, and
most, if not all, mirror the microsoft.public newsgroups. If they don't,
you can still use msnews.microsoft.com as your newsgroup server (best,
direct posts which are then proliferated to the other news service providers
like GigaNews).

Open Outlook Express, go to Tools/Accounts/News tab and then click the Add
button, and select News. Then fill in your name (Hi Ho) on the first page,
your e-mail address (the hotmail account you use) on the second page, the
NNTP server is msnews.microsoft.com. No login required, no password. When
you've completed that, finish out, and OE will ask if you wish to download
the newsgroups for the account you've just set up. Say Yes. 8-) Then you
can use Search once all the groups are downloaded, typing in "games" without
the quotes, locate the windowsxp.games newsgroup, highlight it with a single
left-click and then Subscribe in the right panel.

You're in!

Thanks Chris. I will set it up as soon as I get the
address from my ISP. What is the difference between the
website and OE?

A web browser shouldn't be used as a hub to everything! Keep websites to
web browsers, and usenet/newsgroups to their own clients. Simple.

But basically it's better, faster more wide range of options to deal with
annoying people.

Paul's being blunt today. LOL! You don't need to wait for your ISP, anyone
in the world can access the news server msnews.microsoft.com . It is a
public newsgroup, just maintained on Microsoft's own servers. The
difference of content, surprisingly is that some posts never get to the
web-based interface. Search between the two will always give more results
in NNTP (Outlook Express or other news reader) than on the web. The
web-based service doesn't have features like "Mark All Read," "Auto Expand"
for the threads (you need do it each time), and you cannot watch a specific
thread either. It is kludgy. 8-)
