Hi,
On XPe, I am unable to disable floppy drive.when I
disable it using device manager, it gets disbled and A
drive disappears. But as soon as I reboot the machine, A
drive appears back.I do not have a floppy drive and I have
a zip drive instead.

Can anyone help me out.

Thanks

Padma,

In the registry, try setting the start parameter for the flpydisk service to
Hex4. HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Services\Flpydisk -- valuename Start. You
could also poke around in the flpydisk.inf file and modify it before your
build is complete to control it when FBA starts by setting the start value
to 4 or possibly adding new values to the inf.

I have to ask however, if you don't want the floppy disk to show up on the
system at all, why are you including the components into the build? If you
don't want the floppy, take the components out and you won't have to worry
about this.

Hi,
Thanks for the replly. But I have tried all those and
doesn't work fine.

Now, the reason why I am forced to add the component is
because, I have a Floppy disk controller on my MB but no
floppy drive. So, if I do not include the component, it
shows up as unknown device on device manager which doesn't
look good.Hence I thought to add teh component and disable
it later.

I tried playing with teh start registry value and it
didn't help me.Now, I thought let me give it a try my
manually diabaling from device manager. Then it works
fine. But what is weird is, as soona s machine reboots, It
gets enabled automatically.

Thanks
Padma

Hi,

Have had the same phenomenon, but disabling the floppy disk drives
and FDC (floppy disc controller) in the bios cured it...
