Please could someone explain what the "System Idle Process" application
does, as it shows up in Windows task manager and is often in the high 90%
sytem usage?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,
the System Idle Process is actually the amount of processor time that
*isn't* being used by any application at that time. Because a processor can
never really be doing "nothing" there has to be a process which takes up
that extra time.

Don't worry about the Idle process taking up 90% of your processor time,
it'll relinquish as much as it needs to when another application needs it.

If you look closely at the System Idle Process, you'll see that the number (i.e. 95%)
reflects "free" CPU usage and only 5% is actual CPU usage.
