I need to do chkdsk /f on my drives. I have 3 partitions,
one XP, one ME and another for backup. I was preparing to
backup using drive image (worked before with no problems)
I received an error message "File size does not match FAT
allocation for file", Powerquest website says to run
chkdsk /f but I do not know how to do this.

you have 2-ways - 'gui' or 'command prompt'
1/
about chkdsk -
a/chkdsk - w/out 'parameters' - will run in 'scan mode'
b/chkdsk /f - is run to fix/repair any errors/flaws
for FAT/FAT16/FAT32 file systems
c/chkdsk /r - req'd for 'ntfs' - and
req's the disk to be locked for 'chkdsk' to run
thus need for 'reboot' - to lock before windows runs
2/
about running in 'gui' -
in the 'win xp gui/graphic users interface/mode' -
go start/right click - my computer/open/
right click - local hd/properties/tools tab/
error checking section - check now/
check both options - dialog box/
reboot
note
chkdsk.exe - can be run as many times as necessary to
correct any 'errors/flaws' - and
can be run as many times as necessary to remove them
3/
about running in 'command prompt' -
chkdsk - can be run fr 'command prompt' as in dos
ie
go start/run - cmd.exe/produces 'command prompt window'/
enter 'chkdsk /f' - on 'command line in window'/
if prompted on 'scheduling at next reboot'
ans - yes/
reboot
take it fr there

sorry - left something out fyi - ie
the error msg indicates possible 'FAT/FATnn' limitations -
being exceeded - so review these as a help - ie
