Copying User Profiles- Copy To button grayed out

I am having a problem copying a user profile.
I researched the MS Knowledgebase and found article 314478 giving
instructions for copying a user profile which says Click Start button, right
click My Computer, click Properties, click Advanced Tab, Click Settings
under User Profiles. Then click the Profile you want to Copy and then click
Copy To.
This where I have a problem. The Copy To button is grayed out on the
Profile I am trying to copy. It is grayed out on some of my Profiles but not
on others.
I have tried-
1. Rebooting
2. Logging in as a different User- not the one I am trying to copy (also
with Admin privileges)
Any suggestions?

the profile from User1 to User2 so it will be the same to start. Then I
intend to modify User2 slightly for a different purpose- I will be using it
in a different location so my network connection, default printer, etc will
be different. (It is a laptop).

So you want a Default User profile... Sort of.
Is this user you are trying to 'copy' a domain user utilizing a cached
logon, by any chance?
Is it a domain user at all?
When you rebooted - was the first thing you did was logon as an
administrative user (local account better, but not necessary) and then tried
to copy the profile?

Turn off automatic logon.
Reboot.
It should not automatically log you in... so Log in as Administrator.
(Assuming Windows XP Professional or superset) press CTRL+ALT+DEL at the
welcome screen to get the classic logon prompt so you can logon as
administrator...)
Copy your User1 Profile to whatever you desire.
